Updated Privacy Policy to comply with May 2018 GDPR

We, the business of Orchid Designs Ltd trading as At home in the country are fully committed to protecting and respecting the Information we hold about you and your privacy.

Internal confidentiality

We (the company) protect your privacy in 4 ways:

  1. Access to Customer account information is limited to those who need access for the performance of their job.
  2. We use full login and password controls on our sales control system.
  3. Confidentiality and database access controls are reviewed periodically and updated as required to further protect your personal data.
  4. We follow a tight security procedure as required under UK Data Protection Legislation (the Data Protection Act 1998) to protect the information that we store about you from unauthorised access.

The personal information we hold and why

When you place an order, we need to have your name, address and e-mail address.  A contact telephone number is also required so that we may contact you urgently if there is a problem with your order.

When you checkout/ register with us you can select whether you would like to be sent correspondence from us by email. If you would not like to receive these notifications please select the tick box on the form which is on page 2 of the checkout process. If you leave the box unchecked you will receive these notifications, although we don't send many! If you no longer wish to receive mailings from us please send an email to sales@athomeinthecountry.co.uk and we will remove your email address from our records.

Your payment details

We never see your card details and never will. We use two external service providers, Sagepay and Paypal to take your payment. Both are secure and use computer safeguards, such as firewalls and data encryption to protect your details.

We also have a PDQ Barclaycard terminal here if you prefer to make a card payment over the phone. As soon as we have taken payment, any card number details are shredded immediately. We are fully compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard and update this annually.

Third parties we may share your details with

We may have to share your data with third parties, including third-party service providers.

When placing an order with us, you agree that we have the right to share your personal information with selected third parties including:

  • businesses, suppliers and sub-contractors, but only for the performance of any contract we enter into with you.
  • analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimisation of our site.
  • credit reference agencies for the purpose of assessing your credit score where this is a condition of us entering into a contract with you.

The following third-party service providers process personal information about you for the following purposes:

  • SagePay: to process the payment of your order.
  • Paypal: to process payment of your order.
  • Amazon: to fulfil any orders you may make via our shop on amazon.
  • DPD Group,The Royal Mail, Fedex, UPS. They will process your name, address and telephone number details only to enable them to deliver your parcels.
  • Facebook & Instagram: to serve relevant adverts to you and others.
  • Google: to assist us in the improvement and optimisation of our website.
  • Mailchimp: We have an account with Mailchimp to enable us to send you (very infrequent!) emails advertising our products. You can unsubscribe at any time via a link which appears, by law, at the bottom of every email.
  • Bunting: We use this personalisation service to help us see the most popular pages on our website, which pages visitors go to, how long they are there and what they might be interested in. We can then personalise your browsing experience and sometimes send you a personalised email reminding you of the products you viewed and may want to purchase.i.e. If you have looked at several products in our "Country Home" category, we may send you an email containing several products from that category. We feel this is better than receiving an email containing products that you might not be interested in.

We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes. We only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions. All our third-party service providers are required to take appropriate security measures to protect your personal information in line with our policies. 

Use of 'Cookies'

Our cookies do not contain any personal information about you and are used only to determine your browser and user preferences for our site. We believe that this can greatly assist us in providing you with the service that you desire and to enhance your browsing experience. However, if you prefer, your browser software should enable you not to accept cookies. You should still be able to use our site without cookies enabled. This allows us to make informed changes to the website which enhances your experience. However we have no idea of who you are or any of your personal details as all the tracking is anonymous. We keep track of how many people use this website and which sections are most popular - that's so we can improve the service we offer and make sure that all parts of the site are working. 

Consent

Your use of this website signifies your consent to the collection, processing and use of personal information by us for the purpose of administering and dealing with your order or account, market research, processing your payments, credit reference checking and fraud detection, and for marketing purposes as outlined above. Any changes to our privacy policy will be posted here on this site so that you may ensure that you are fully informed of your rights and can notify us of any changes to your preferences. We check which pages are used more and which pages are used less, on our website.

How long we keep your personal data (Your Name, Address and Email Address)

We will only keep your personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil your order and for purposes of book keeping/accounting. We will also keep your information for our mailing lists, email and direct mail, you can opt out of any of these at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us by phone, email or letter. We will not automatically send you a copy of our mail order catalogue if you have not ordered within the past year. If you would like to edit or delete the personal data we have for you, please contact us via email, phone or letter.

Data privacy manager

We have appointed a data privacy manager to oversee compliance with this privacy notice. If you have any questions about this privacy notice or how we handle your personal information, please contact our data privacy manager at sales@athomeinthecountry.co.uk. You have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection issues.
